Router: Asus AC1900 (T-Mobile cellspot) with 200Mbps download Disabling "direct play" seems better but more than likely it's just my perception. I have tried flipping around some of the toggles in the Plex client.
I have tried both wired and wireless (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) network connections.
PLEX CONVERTING THROTTLED ROKU2 720P
I have run into issues when try trying to play both 720p and 1080p content remote streams from our vacation home. I do have 4K movies bit they are not relevant for this conversation so we can avoid that rabbit hole. I have several friends that connect in and have never report an issue. I have no issues playing any content on my local network. Plex server is running on a Truenas rig within a jail: That leaves the wifi/broadband or possibly the TV as the problem in the chain, so I think the configuration and hardware are fine. Is the Roku trying to downscale the image itself and running out of resource? Did I need to adjust the settings when swapping from my TV to my friends?Įdit I tested with my phone tethered to the Roku and found no issues. The TV I was streaming to was 720p I believe, it's pretty old. This indicates that the issue would be on the Roku itself. If I play the same content on my phone, again at max quality, I don't see any issues. I checked my server stats while it was playing, and although my upload speed isn't amazing (10mbps), it wasn't reaching that, neither were there bottlenecks with RAM or CPU.

I took it with me to my friends house and we could access 480p content fine, but it had issues with 1080p content, buffering for a few seconds every minute or so. I got a Roku streaming stick + to take with me whenever I need to access plex on a screen. Please go to the relevant subreddits and support forums, for example:
